In the early 1970s  the writings and paintings of George Catlin awakened me to  the spiritual and artful culture of the Native American People.  To express this humble and honest respect for life I began creating watercolor portraits of rather somber and vacant looking faces..  The years passed, I painted, I listened, I studied, I meditated, I prayed.   I came to understand that their reverence for the Earth and the oneness of our global experience is as necessary to life in today’s society as it was in their own.

I am now creating my own portraits to express that vital creativity of spirit, so necessary to the art of living well..  My work is just a glance at the passionate energy of the ancients swirling into the future, transcending our political, geographic, ethnic and religious boundaries.. We attain identity as beings.  We are the wind.  We are the stars. We become one.

Over the years, these paintings have become more spiritual than stoic and are now as inspirational as they are decorative.  They have become my friends; they carry with them the joy of life, celebrated in all times, but embodied here in the first people of the Americas.

To create these images, I work with acrylic mediums and pure pigments..  By mixing pure pigment with acrylic medium I am able to get a rich intensity of color with even the thinnest of glazes.  By layering the pure colors I can achieve the depth and strength of color I need to express my own excitement with art and life.
